Lafferre Hall, formerly Engineering Building East, was built in 1892 and houses the College of Engineering, one of the first west of the Mississippi River. Benjamin Franklin Thomas made the first demonstration of incandescent lighting west of the Mississippi in this building, using a dynamo given by Thomas Edison. The building is named for Thomas (BS ME '65) and Nell Lafferre.
