The contributions of MU athlete Anton Stankowski were memorialized in 1996 with the construction of the Stankowski Outdoor Recreation Complex. The $4.3 million facility includes volleyball and basketball courts, a jogging track and synthetic-turf football/soccer fields with overlapping softball fields. Stankowski was MU's star quarterback and football team captain in 1916 and 1919, and he coached baseball in 1935-36. He also served as director of the University's intramural athletic program for nearly 40 years.
