The impressive gothic architecture of MU's Memorial Union makes it one of the most picturesque landmarks on campus. The central portion of the structure, the Tower, was built as a memorial to those University of Missouri alumni and students who lost their lives in World War I. The tower is approximately 140 feet high and bears a Latin inscription which reads \"In Sapientia Ambulate, Tempus Rediments.\" This translated says, \"Walk in Wisdom, Redeeming the Time.\" Since the time of its dedication, the memorial stands as a tribute to all of the MU alumni and students lost in U.S. wars and conflicts.
